US utility PacifiCorp, currently in an agreed take-over bid with

the owner of Eastern Electricity The Energy Group, has hired Brunswick

Public Relations to represent both companies during the

negotiations.

Brunswick was appointed late last week, with a brief to handle investor

and media relations. The Energy Group’s corporate communications agency,

Cardew and Co, will continue to advise the company.

The Energy Group, a British company which owns Eastern Electricity and

coal miner Peabody, de-merged from Hanson in February. Cardew handled

public relations for the group during the demerger.

Cardew was contractually prevented from advising both companies involved

in the take-over.

It has an agreement with another utility client, Southern Company of

Atlanta Georgia, that it will not represent other US utilities.

It is thought that the contract will last for around two months.

No one at Brunswick was available for comment at the time of going to

press.
