NEW YORK: Starwood Hotel and Leisure Group, the world’s largest

leisure and gaming company following acquisitions of hotel giants Westin

and ITT Sheraton this year, has appointed 19-year veteran of ITT Corp,

James Gallagher, to head up its PR.

Gallagher’s remit as senior vice-president of PR and primary spokesman

for Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide will be to raise the profile

of the Starwood parent company. He will be responsible for maintaining

communications among the six brands, which have a combined revenue of

pounds 6.25 billion, and include 650 hotels and 100,000 employees

worldwide.

As vice-president of ITT Corp, the group which formerly owned Sheraton

Hotels, Gallagher acted as spokesman during a takeover battle with

Hilton Corp. The brands now under his remit at Starwood are Sheraton,

Westin, Four Points, St Regis Luxury Collection, W Hotels, and the

gaming company Caesar’s World.

The Starwood Lodging Corp, predecessor of the current company, employed

Debbi Ford as manager of investor relations and PR. She has now left the

company.
