JC2000, the new charity set up to promote religion within the
Millennium celebrations, has appointed Marketforce Communications to
handle its PR.
JC2000 aims to educate children on the religious implications of the
year 2000 after research discovered that just one young person in eight
recognises the Millennium to be the 2000th anniversary of the birth of
The charity will initiate a nationwide schools project involving 120,000
school governors and teachers, as well as pupils and their parents. They
will be encouraged to stage plays, readings, exhibitions and concerts as
part of over 200 local and regional festivals across the UK. The most
interesting performances will be selected for a national event in the
Millennium Dome in June 2000. A pounds 1 million appeal has been
launched by the charity to help fund the project. Marketforce’s brief

Mark MacGregor, director of Marketforce, said: ’By the end of the decade
we hope every child in the country will understand the full significance
of the new Millennium as a milestone in Christianity.’
The Government, the Church of England, representatives from other
religions and the New Millennium Experience Company have backed JC2000.
This follows widespread concern earlier this year that celebrations were
losing sight of the meaning of the year 2000.
