Marketforce highlights religion for Millennium

JC2000, the new charity set up to promote religion within the

Millennium celebrations, has appointed Marketforce Communications to

handle its PR.

JC2000 aims to educate children on the religious implications of the

year 2000 after research discovered that just one young person in eight

recognises the Millennium to be the 2000th anniversary of the birth of

Christ.

The charity will initiate a nationwide schools project involving 120,000

school governors and teachers, as well as pupils and their parents. They

will be encouraged to stage plays, readings, exhibitions and concerts as

part of over 200 local and regional festivals across the UK. The most

interesting performances will be selected for a national event in the

Millennium Dome in June 2000. A pounds 1 million appeal has been

launched by the charity to help fund the project. Marketforce’s brief

covers media relations and events promotion.

Mark MacGregor, director of Marketforce, said: ’By the end of the decade

we hope every child in the country will understand the full significance

of the new Millennium as a milestone in Christianity.’

The Government, the Church of England, representatives from other

religions and the New Millennium Experience Company have backed JC2000.

This follows widespread concern earlier this year that celebrations were

losing sight of the meaning of the year 2000.
