Anschutz Sports Holdings has brought in Eye Communications to

handle the PR for the launch of its new London ice hockey team, the

London Knights.

The Richmond-based agency will target sports media to gain coverage as

the new team are signed up by coach Jim Fuyarchuk. The London Knights

will join the UK’s ice hockey Superleague in September, the first

premier league hockey team from London since the Streatham Redskins in

1989.

Anschutz, which also owns the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club in the US,

is investing pounds 5 million in the ice hockey team and has acquired a

50 per cent share of the London Arena in Docklands, as the London

Knights base.

The company aims to make London the ice hockey centre of Europe,

capitalising on the 55 per cent increase in average attendance at ice

hockey games since 1995.
