NEWS: Siemens reviews healthcare PR

Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems, the German owned IT services giant,

is reviewing PR for its healthcare division as it expands its share of

the medical IT market.

The health systems division provides networking equipment and technical

support to organisations in the healthcare industry, including

hospitals, ambulance services, health authorities and the NHS.

In January, Siemens Nixdorf acquired ICL’s Medical Portfolio and further

enhanced its healthcare capability by buying a controlling share of

Manchester IT firm Hospital Engineering.

Press relations executive Paula Schmidt stressed that the review only

covered Siemens Nixdorf’s healthcare activities and that PR for the

firm’s other business units would still be handled by Ingleton-Beer

Associates (IBA).

‘It seemed a good time to look at the direction our PR should take,’

said Schmidt. ‘It is a review of our PR rather than of our agency.’

The incumbent agency has been asked to repitch for the healthcare

business along with two other consultancies, believed to be Countrywide

and Arrow Public Relations.

IBA has worked for Siemens since its formation in 1989. Overall the

account is worth pounds 200,000 a year in fees.
