The Boots group has appointed its first corporate affairs head in

Scotland, a few months before the Scottish Parliament gets off the

ground.

Jane Scott will join Boots in April from lobbying agency GJW’s Scottish

operation, which she heads as communication director. She will report to

Boots group external affairs head Martin Wakeling and handle all media,

government and community relations for the company in Scotland. The size

of her team remains undecided.

Eight per cent of Boots’ turnover is generated in Scotland. It operates

over 100 Boots The Chemist stores, as well as Boots Opticians and

Halfords outlets in Scotland. The company employs 1,000 people in its

Airdrie-based factory, which produces cosmetics and suntan products.

Explaining the decision to create a Scotland-based corporate affairs

post, Wakeling said: ’There’s going to be a Scottish parliament from

July taking decisions that will affect Boots’ businesses in Scotland. We

have a major presence in Scotland and intend to be able to make our

voice heard there.’

Scott joined GJW nine months ago and has handled accounts there

including Vodafone, Scottish Power and the Royal Bank of Scotland. She

was recently called upon to draw up Scottish proposals for Boots, a

client of GJW’s in London.

Scott previously worked as marketing director for retail property

company the Guinea Group.
