Diary: Norwich Union braces itself as QBO chief muscles in on its ad campaign

Earlier this week Norwich Union launched its latest advertising campaign, featuring everyday people such as a trawlerman and a lollipop lady twanging red braces to express their delight with good returns from their policies.

Earlier this week Norwich Union launched its latest advertising

campaign, featuring everyday people such as a trawlerman and a lollipop

lady twanging red braces to express their delight with good returns from

their policies.

Norwich Union also used retained agency QBO to handle the PR support for

the advertising launch. Account team Jo Carr and Hamish Paterson were

responsible for generating press coverage on the back of the launch.

But it seems that one person at the agency has been a fan of

brace-twanging for longer than the Saatchi and Saatchi creatives who

dreamed up the Norwich Union ad. My picture shows Trevor Morris,

managing director at QBO, posing in a fetching pair of white braces for

a Mr Universe contest at Exeter University 20 years ago.

While the braces aren’t exactly the right colour I can only applaud the

tight white shorts and matching boots. Morris no doubt appreciates Part

of the Union, the rousing 1970s anthem by the Strawbs which accompanies

the ad.

I only hope that his client considers him for the next advertising

campaign.

Apparently all the people used in the advertising, such as bee-keepers

and chefs, are the real thing and not actors. So what better than a

semi-naked PR man?
