Opinion: From our Readers - Directgov welcomes advice on joining up

In this era of reduced budgets, Matt Tee has advised 'themed communications' across government and advocates that communicators should 'learn how to join up a bit' (News, 30 Octobter).

Directgov welcomes this advice. 'What's Next' - a campaign aimed at parents of those leaving education - is a prime example of how this can work. Ministers had identified the need for an integrated campaign, and Directgov's own research reflected this.

Directgov worked with the departments for Children, Schools and Families, Work and Pensions, and Business, Innovation and Skills to produce clear advertising, online activity and PR. This ran during August and September, when need was at its peak.

Directgov is now working with other departments on similar projects.
