Bite Communications to work with Alterian

Alterian, the FTSE-listed software company, has hired Bite Communications to promote its services to senior marketers and business leaders. Alterian recently acquired social media monitoring company Techrigy. Customers include the BBC, AstraZeneca, ESPN and Adobe.

ESRI, the geographic information systems technology developer, has appointed The Red Consultancy following a four-way competitive pitch. Red has been charged with raising the company's profile in the sectors within which it operates. The PR programme will also involve industry analyst relations.

Telcordia, the fixed, mobile and broadband communications software and services provider, has handed its UK public relations account to Octopus Communications. The agency secured the account following a competitive pitch. Telcordia's customers include BT and Orange. The news comes as the agency appoints Emily Wearmouth as associate director.

Monitoring Social Media 2009, a conference for PR and marketing professionals, will take place on 17 November in London. The event, which is organised by social media consultancy Social Times, will feature talks, panel sessions and discussions. Speakers include iCrossing's Antony Mayfield, Brando Social's David Cushman and Edelman's Marshall Manson.

Digitalis Media, the SEO and PR agency, has hired Mark Wood as chairman. Wood has worked for major finance institutions Prudential and Barclays as well as with technology start-ups. He was formerly chief executive of AXA.
