Paragon Golin/Harris has won a pounds 200,000 fee consumer PR

contract from the British Electrotechnical Approvals Board (BEAB).

Changes in EU and international regulations mean there are now a large

number of electrical safety approval and conformity marks. Paragon’s

brief is to raise public awareness of BEAB as an independent electrical

safety standard.

’We will be talking to consumers for the first time in a bid to make

retailers and manufacturers think more seriously about which is the most

important safety approval route,’ said Janet Salvoni, a Paragon agency

director.

Paragon was awarded the contract following a five-way pitch against HDM

Agency, Jackson Communications, Fisher Industrial Marketing and Good

Publicity.

The previous incumbent Condor was not shortlisted.

The BEAB is a non-profit making organisation with a board made up of

representatives of trade associations including the Association for the

Management of Domestic Appliances and the Electricity Association. It is

funded by payments received from manufacturers for testing and approving

the safety of their domestic appliances.
