Increasing financial pressures have resulted in national mental

health charity MACA cutting the posts in its PR department from three to

one.

MACA previously employed two executives to focus separately on the

parliamentary and media sectors, with Simon Lawton-Smith as

parliamentary officer and Donna Hill as media relations officer. Hill’s

contract has not been renewed, but Lawton-Smith has been promoted to

public affairs head and will report directly to MACA chief executive Gil

Hitchon. He previously reported to media and communications head Peter

Ketton who left the company when his position was no longer required

three months ago. ’The focus of the new post is to get the message

primarily to MPs and the media that care in the community does work,’

said Hitchon.
