Airport authority BAA’s corporate and public affairs director Des

Wilson has been selected to chair the Sports Lottery Panel, which

allocates over pounds 250 million of National Lottery cash to sports

projects.

He will head an eight-strong panel which meets monthly to recommend

applications for lottery funds to Sport England (formerly the English

Sports Council).

Wilson has also been appointed to deputise for Trevor Brooking, the new

chairman of Sport England.

As senior vice-chairman, Wilson will ratify Sport England’s policy on

issues such as sport in schools and raise the profile of the newly

rebranded government agency.

Wilson has held his post at BAA since 1994. He was previously public

affairs director at Burson-Marsteller for a year and advised the Liberal

Democrat Party on its 1992 general election campaign.
