BORDER LINES: WASHINGTON: Gerchick takes off at APCO

Public affairs firm APCO has appointed Mark Gerchick, an aviation specialist at the US government’s Department of Transportation, as a senior vice-president and director of aviation services at the firm. Gerchick was deputy assistant secretary of Transportation for Aviation and International Affairs at the department. He joined the Clinton administration in 1993, and played a major role in the president’s push for open aviation markets, negotiating the US-Germany Open Skies bilateral agreement. His appointment follows APCO’s win of the account for Boeing’s European media relations (PR Week, 15 August 1997).
