cross-industry event designed to encourage children to read - on 23

April.

The event took place for the first time last year when the Quentin Bell

Organisation handled the PR.

Every schoolchild under the age of 18 will receive a pounds 1 book

voucher as part of the initiative, which has the backing of publishers,

booksellers and libraries. The BBC is also supporting the scheme and is

planning a series of radio and TV programmes to air in conjunction with

the day.

Colman Getty will also promote The Children’s Book of Books. It has been

specially complied for World Book Day, with favourite book extracts

nominated by celebrities including Jarvis Cocker and Spice Girl Geri

Halliwell.
