ITT Sheraton books in Welbeck to handle UK PR

ITT Sheraton Corporation, the group which owns Sheraton hotels, has chosen Welbeck Golin/Harris to handle its UK and Ireland public relations activities.

ITT Sheraton Corporation, the group which owns Sheraton hotels, has

chosen Welbeck Golin/Harris to handle its UK and Ireland public

relations activities.



Welbeck won the account following a competitive six-way pitch, and will

work across ITT Sheraton’s brands, which include the Luxury Collection,

mid-market brand Four Points and Sheraton Hotels. The hotel group has

450 properties worldwide.



The Communications Partnership previously handled PR for ITT Sheraton,

but chose not to re-pitch (PR Week, 14 November 1997). The agency wanted

to focus on its travel and freight clients instead.



Welbeck will promote ITT Sheraton’s properties to trade, corporate and

consumer media, working alongside the company’s network of agencies

across Europe. ITT Sheraton uses agencies in Amsterdam, Paris and

Frankfurt, and has ten in-house PR advisers across Europe.



The hotels group agreed to a takeover by Arizona-based Starwood Lodging

in November, following a takeover battle between Starwood and the Hilton

Hotels Corporation. Hilton initiated a hostile bid last January, but ITT

shareholders voted to accept the friendly offer from Starwood.



The takeover is expected to result in the addition of 30 to 40 Sheraton

hotels and a programme of refurbishment in the UK.
