Newcastle United plc goes into this weekend’s FA Cup Final as the most negatively perceived company in Britain, according to a Press Watch survey.

Newcastle United plc goes into this weekend’s FA Cup Final as the

most negatively perceived company in Britain, according to a Press Watch

survey.

In the first quarter of 1998 Newcastle achieved a negative rating of

minus 4,219, the lowest Press Watch rating for five years. The alleged

behaviour of former directors Freddy Shepherd and Douglas Hall is

responsible for the negative coverage. Commercial Union attracted most

favourable coverage throughout the quarter due to its merger with

General Accident.
