National Semiconductor, the US components manufacturer, has hired

Harvard Public Relations as its PR adviser in the UK.

The appointment follows a review of National’s European PR support at

the beginning of this year which ended its two-year relationship with A

Plus. Through its Europlus network, A Plus co-ordinated work in France

and Italy and directly handled product and business-to-business PR in

the UK. National still retains the two Europlus agencies in France and

Italy as well as an independent consultancy in Germany.

European PR manager Katja Schlendorf said that Harvard had been picked

for the pounds 50,000 fee account because of its experience in promoting

components. ‘They most clearly demonstrated their expertise in the

technical arena and have a good understanding of the UK PR scene,’ she

said.

Working with National’s three strong in-house PR team in

Furstenfeldbruck, Germany, Harvard will target design engineers and the

business market with a campaign of media relations.

‘It complements our skills base quite significantly,’ said Harvard

director Keith Mason who is leading the account.
