Computer networking giant Cisco Systems is to part company with UK

agency Firefly and has handed a new corporate brief to Band and

Brown.

Cisco, which supplies products for corporate networks, intranets and the

internet, will bring relations with IT press in the UK - currently

handled by Firefly - in-house. Band and Brown will handle corporate PR

in the UK.

Cisco is looking to recruit a UK PR manager to handle relations with the

IT press while Band and Brown will target national press and business

titles such as Business Age and Management Today.

Band and Brown’s team will be led by Cheryl Gale, account director and

head of its IT division. Gale joined Band and Brown from the Weber Group

two years ago.

The agency will report to Cisco’s new head of UK marketing Amanda Rigby

who joins from Dow Jones Markets where she was regional marketing

manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Band and Brown was appointed to handle the UK account after a pitch

against Icas PR. The agency already handles PR for Cisco at corporate

level across Europe, reporting to European corporate PR manager Imogen

Bailey.

Firefly will cease to handle IT press relations in October by which time

Cisco hopes to have made the in-house appointment. Last January it took

its European product PR, previously handled by Text 100, in-house.

In the UK Cisco has a turnover of pounds 280 million.
