NEWS: Tele West picks Barrington Lloyd for rebranding

TeleWest, the UK’s largest cable operator, has hired Barrington Lloyd

International to handle its trade and technical communications ahead of

a major rebranding exercise.

BLI will work alongside TeleWest’s financial agency Dewe Rogerson, which

helped steer the company through its flotation last year. TeleWest hired

BLI on the basis of its track record in the industry. BLI’s clients

include industry marketing body the Cable Communications Association.

‘I required an organisation who were extremely well-connected in the

trade and technical areas in this industry and Barrington Lloyd fits the

bill,’ said TeleWest director of corporate relations Ian Hood.

Hood admitted that the TeleWest brand is virtually unknown outside the

industry because its franchise interests across the UK operate using

different names such as United Artists Communications. Under the

rebranding exercise, operations will be consolidated under the TeleWest

Communications name.

TeleWest has interests in 31 franchises covering about 4.1 million

homes. US media giant TCI and telecoms company US West each owns 26.8

per cent of TeleWest.

Both BLI senior partner Barry Lloyd and Hood declined to reveal how much

the business was worth in fees to the agency.
