Pitman Training, the office and computer training group has hired
Icas PR to manage a public relations programme aimed at shaking off its
dusty secretarial image.
The company, which owns the rights to the famous shorthand system, hired
the agency last week following a competitive pitch against Firefly,
Keene Communications and Mere Communication. Firefly previously handled
PR for Pitman as part of its work for holding company CRT.
Pitman’s search for an agency was initially prompted by the arrival of
Tim Woods as sales and marketing director in September. Woods explained
that the firm wanted to recruit a dedicated agency to help reach the
The company, he said, offered training for a range of workplace skills,
including information technology, and wanted to boost its recognition
among potential individual customers as well as corporate clients.
Icas, which starts with a #50,000 fee account for the first year, will
primarily manage a media relations brief.
