Burson-Marsteller has recruited a raft of financial PR specialists

in an effort to beef up its capability in the European financial PR and

investor relations sector.

The four new arrivals will be headed up by Simon Eaton, who joins as a

director on 2 April. Previously a director of investor relations firm

Tavistock, Eaton will lead the team primarily on European privatisation

work. He is joined by Pascal Huser, a former diplomat at the Foreign

Office and Tim Clifton, a former consultant with Brunswick, who have

been made associate directors. Former SBC Warburg associate director

Gabrielle Stanford becomes an account director. All four will report to

Paul Philpotts, B-M London managing director and head of European

financial PR.

Philpotts explained that the hiring spree was partly a result of B-M’s

recent restructuring and a consequence of increased European

privatisation work. ’What we are doing is building up a central team

that will support the local country offices,’ he said. B-M is also

looking to recruit two or three more people at director or associate

director level.

Philpotts added that the appointments did not mean that B-M was no

longer in the market to buy a financial PR or investor relations firm,

but that it would focus more immediately on internal growth.

’It depends on the circumstances,’ he said. ’If we get to a point where

we want to take more people then buying a firm might be the way to do

it. We are definitely not out of the market for anything.’
