NEWS: Samsung consolidates its UK PR with Charles Barker

Samsung Electronics, part of the South Korean electronics and industrial conglomerate Samsung, has handed Charles Barker its estimated pounds 150,000 UK and Ireland PR account.

Samsung Electronics, part of the South Korean electronics and industrial

conglomerate Samsung, has handed Charles Barker its estimated pounds

150,000 UK and Ireland PR account.

The hiring, announced earlier this week, followed a decision by Samsung

Electronics to consolidate product PR into a single agency.

The account had previously been split between three separate PR

agencies. Axicom had been handling the computers and peripherals

division for the past 20 months; Infopress worked on the consumer

electronics division for the past six years and Click Communications

held the telecoms and office automation account for the last four years.

‘We have to respond to market changes and our PR has to be much

stronger, consolidated and give out a single message,’ said UK marketing

director, Ali Denim.

The month-long search ended with the Axicom and Infopress taking part in

a competitive five-way pitch.

Tim Lewis, agency account director, said that Charles Barker’s role

would span both the consumer and business sectors. He said it would be

responsible for brand awareness of existing Samsung Electronics

products, specific equipment launches in the UK, and building the

Samsung Electronics corporate name in the UK. The account will be headed

by Charles Barker’s deputy Jennifer Potter.
