Conservative forum aims to update Tories’ image

Office also confirmed that Bell Pottinger Communications chairman Lord

Bell and Shandwick parent company International PR chairman, Lord

Chadlington had not been invited to the forum. Both Bell and Chadlington

have advised the party in the past.



The Conservative Party is inviting ’younger, newer people who have not

been involved in the party before’ to advise it on rebranding its image,

according to Cooper.



Cooper confirmed that party chief executive Archie Norman has asked 12

PR, media and advertising professionals to form a creative forum.



’They will meet from time to time for dinner and suggest interesting

ways to communicate our messages,’ Cooper said.



’The creative forum is intended for people not as senior who don’t have

instant access to Central Office,’ he said. Other names tipped to have a

seat at the table include Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, which

owns Hill and Knowlton and Ogilvy PR Worldwide.



Among the issues up for discussion by the creative forum are the Tory

Party’s torch of freedom logo and its trademark true blue colour.



Four months ago, the party restructured its communications along a ’war

room’ format which integrates research and media relations and is

jointly headed by Cooper and director of research Danny Finkelstein (PR

Week, 24 July).
