Diary: Account manager proves he’s game for anything for a client

It’s not often that PR consultants are provided with the opportunity to personally promote clients live on national television. However, this was the experience enjoyed by Simon Laird, account manager at Craigie Taylor International.

It’s not often that PR consultants are provided with the

opportunity to personally promote clients live on national television.

However, this was the experience enjoyed by Simon Laird, account manager

at Craigie Taylor International.

The TV channel just happened to be in Fiji but I suppose it still

counts.

Laird, whose client Matthew Gloag and Son sponsors the Scotland rugby

team through whisky brand Famous Grouse, was accompanying the team on

tour as the sponsor’s representative when he was asked by Fijian TV to

do a bit of commentating.

Apparently the Fijian equivalent to Des Lynam was having trouble

identifying Scotland players and called on Laird as the only spare Jock

to hand. At half-time Laird was heard to crow: ’I got three mentions for

Famous Grouse.’

There was just one hitch. Famous Grouse isn’t sold in Fiji but at least

Laird has prepared the market for its launch. Our heroic plugger is now

in Australia with the Scotland team on the next leg of its tour.

He might even be given the chance to do some more promotion. This time

in a country that does sell the product.
