FRANKFURT: Expanding Zurich-based PR group Trimedia International

has bought top ten German consumer specialist Reporter Public Relations

in a move that will boost Trimedia into the top three PR agencies in

Germany, with a combined fee income of about pounds 5.4 million.

Both Reporter and Trimedia Germany are based in Frankfurt. The smaller

agency will continue to operate under its own brand name and in its own

offices for the next six weeks. Longer term plans for Reporter are still

under discussion.

Reporter registered a fee income of pounds 1.4 million last year,

placing it at around the ninth place in the top ten German agencies

classified by fee income. Under the deal, Reporter owner Bernd Rosema

will remain as managing director. He will continue to control Reporter’s

biggest account, German national mail system Deutsche Post.

Trimedia’s strength lies principally in financial and hi-tech PR. ’What

we are buying is a very good consumer goods business,’ said Trimedia

International director Bodo Bimboese, who is heading the group’s

expansion. ’Reporter specialises in press work and there is a synergy in

taking their media contacts.’

Trimedia recorded a total German fee income of pounds 3.9 million in

1998 and its clients include Polaroid, Nokia, BT and private equity firm

Apax Partners.

Trimedia International counts offices in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf as

well as an office in Paris and four in Switzerland - in Zurich, Geneva,

Berne and Lugano - where the agency is number one in terms of fee

income.

Trimedia aims to have top three operations in each key European

market.

It is now looking to establish a Brussels presence and to build up its

14-strong French operation through acquisition and internal growth.
