Cable giant Telewest puts corporate PR up for grabs

Telewest, the UK’s largest cable company, is reviewing its corporate and financial PR account, currently held by Citigate Dewe Rogerson.

Telewest, the UK’s largest cable company, is reviewing its

corporate and financial PR account, currently held by Citigate Dewe

Rogerson.

Three agencies, including the incumbent, are vying for the business and

a decision is expected within the next four weeks. Dewe Rogerson, which

merged with Citigate last year, has held the account for four years.

’I can confirm that the account is under review,’ said a Telewest

spokesman.

’This is part of a periodic review of all our agency relationships.’

Telewest’s advertising, media-buying, and business-to-business PR

accounts have all undergone a review since chief executive Tony

Illsley’s arrival last September. However, the spokesman pointed out

that two of the incumbent agencies in the above reviews had been

retained by Telewest.

The review will be led by Ian Hood, Telewest’s director of corporate

communications and investor relations and comes at a time when Telewest

is riding on the crest of a wave of good publicity. Since the arrival of

Illsley Telewest’s share price has risen from 140p to 245p.

P Citigate Dewe Rogerson has lost two of its three most senior corporate

PR staff. Associate directors Lawrence Dore and Steffan Williams have

resigned and been put on three-months’ gardening leave.
