The National Magazine Company, publisher of Cosmopolitan and

Harpers and Queen, is losing its communications director, Eileen

Wise.

Wise is leaving after over a year in the post to travel around the

world.

She was head of news at Conservative Central Office until last year’s

general election. She reported to NatMags managing director, Terry

Mansfield and oversaw a 12-strong PR team. The company is currently

recruiting Wise’s replacement.

At NatMags, Wise oversaw the launch of parenting magazine, M, and became

involved in lobbying for the rules to be changed on masthead programming

- TV spin-offs of magazines - to include terrestrial television.

Wise’s other previous jobs included personal press officer to Robert

Maxwell during the launch of the European newspaper in 1990, PR manager

for Andrew Lloyd Webber and chief press officer for the Walt Disney

Company for five years.

She said: ’I went straight from college to university and never had a

break. The last few years I’ve worked exceedingly hard. NatMags was a

lovely job but very busy and I think if I don’t travel now I never

will.’

The National Magazine Company belongs to American media group the Hearst

Corporation. Its UK stable includes Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping,

Esquire, Company, Country Living, House Beautiful and Harpers & Queen.

Next month, the company is launching its latest title, ZM, a quarterly

men’s magazine.
