Barclay Stratton has won a pounds 150,000 budget Specsavers account

after a two-way competitive pitch. It is the first time Guernsey-based

Specsavers has appointed an agency to handle its PR activities.

The brief is to build awareness of Specsavers as a ’value for money’

brand and focus on products, services and reputation. Barclay Stratton

will also provide advice and assistance with issues and crisis

management.

’Although children and the youth market are two particular audiences, we

must not forget that many people don’t start to wear glasses until

they’re over 40,’ said Jenny Thomas, managing director of Barclay

Stratton.

Thomas will head a team of four, and report to communications manager

Selina Bichard at Specsavers. Bichard said the hiring would provide the

additional resources for a business drive planned for later this

year.

Specsavers group communications manager Stewart Roussell said the PR

agency had been hired in response to the increasing demand and activity

in the market place.

’The company is on a roll at the moment,’ Roussell said. ’We recognise

the role for PR as part of our integrated marketing strategy.’

Specsavers carried out over two million eye tests last year and has 330

opticians across the UK.
