With co-star Anthea Turner out of the way - she leaves in December -

GMTV anchor Eamonn Holmes is making the most of the opportunity.

Perhaps mindful of the excellent job Turner’s hubby Peter Powell has

done in pushing up her fees, Holmes has hired PR firm MacLaurin

Communications to do a little profile raising on his own behalf.

Holmes’ agent Simpson Fox - which hired the agency three weeks ago - is

keen that the retiring Belfast-man should make the most of his many

activities which include the Beeb’s How do they do that?, corporate

videos and his latest project, a book. And who better to do it than the

firm which turned Mr Blobby into a household name.

MD Brian MacLaurin is adamant that his agency will not be usurping the

role of GMTV’s own press department: ‘GMTV remains the central focus of

everything Eamonn does, our role is not to interfere with GMTV in that

sense but to look across the whole range of his activities.’

As for the team at GMTV, they are of course delighted to have MacLaurin

on board. ‘It was the same with Anthea - they both feel they need to

have one person controlling things, and we are happy to work very

closely with that person,’ says Sue Brearley, GMTV’s head of press and

PR.
