Diary: Companycare account director is stirred but not shaken by Moore

If being photographed with former James Bond Roger Moore fails to thrill, what about securing a pounds 1 million donation to a global children’s charity?

If being photographed with former James Bond Roger Moore fails to

thrill, what about securing a pounds 1 million donation to a global

children’s charity?

CompanyCare account director Mark Smith did both last week. Smith was

given the job of handing over the donation to Moore, a Unicef

ambassador, on behalf of CompanyCare client GSM Association, a body

which represents 300 global mobile phone firms.

The member phone companies all produce Global System Mobile (GSM)

phones, which use digital technology to enable calls to be made and

received in remote locations.

The money was raised as part of the organisation’s celebration of 100

million global users of GSM phones.

Smith convinced the association of the PR benefits of making the Unicef

donation. He also wrote a PR action plan that members could use to

maximise publicity for their contribution.

But that’s not all. CompanyCare has donated its fees for the work to

Unicef. Smith has been given a rather nice reward for his efforts,

though.

He was flown out to Tanzania to discover how Unicef will be spending the

donation.
