is to join Edelman in the UK as MD. He joins next week and will report

to Tari Hibbitt, who has now been promoted to CEO. He will work

alongside the agency’s new UK chairman, Nigel Whittaker.

When Mahony joined Edelman to head its Dublin office in 1996, it had a

staff of six, a turnover of pounds 250,000 and was Ireland’s 15th

largest agency. Three years later the operation employs 27 people, has a

fee income of around pounds 2 million and is Ireland’s fourth largest

agency. Its Dublin clients include Boots the Chemist, British Midland,

Proctor and Gamble, Telecom Eireann and Pfizer.

Hugh Gillanders, currently director of Edelman’s corporate and financial

practice in Dublin, will take over as managing director. Mahony will

remain chairman of the agency.

In London, Mahony will oversee a 110-strong operation with a fee income

of over pounds 8 million. One of his tasks is to boost training,

particularly for senior staff, in the London office.

Mahony was responsible for the first Edelman European summer school for

senior consultants in Dublin last year, and will organise the first such

event in the UK later this year. He will also work to develop new client

services.
