DIARY: Misery hates company, especially at Christmas

Despite appearing on this page rather too often for his own good, Quentin Bell leaves me no choice but to bring you another tale in his ever-entertaining life.

Despite appearing on this page rather too often for his own good,

Quentin Bell leaves me no choice but to bring you another tale in his

ever-entertaining life.

A stalwart of the rent-a quote circuit since he cashed in his chips at

the PR agency which still bears his name, Bell has put himself in the

running for PR Week’s unofficial ’Most Miserable Man in PR’ award. Bell,

whose last appearance on this page reflected his long running rivalry

with Max Clifford, decided to spend Christmas well away from the bosom

of his family, eating alone in a restaurant in Reading.

’I love my wife and daughters dearly, but just felt it would be better

to leave them all to it for the day,’ said the humbug. ’Does this make

me the Most Miserable Man in PR?’ he went on, hopefully. Answers on a

postcard please ...
