APCO Associates has bought a minority stake in emerging markets PR
specialist IEC Strategies to strengthen its activity in Africa, the
former Soviet Union and Latin America.
IEC was established in August by Kirby Jones, former chairman of
government and emerging markets practice at Burson-Marsteller.
Jones said: ’APCO has a recognised record of involvement in emerging
markets and this partnership gives us access to their network.’
IEC is based in Washington DC but sends specialist project teams to
markets when they are needed. It works on public education and awareness
campaigns for governments.
The alliance with IEC is the latest in a series of partnerships forged
by APCO. In 1997 the company allied itself with Central Europe
Consultants, announced an alliance with Consultec, a consultancy firm
associated with the Chinese trade and economic ministry, and in August
APCO bought Hong Kong lobbying firm Warren Williams International and
agreed an exclusive partnership with Batey Burn, a government relations
agency based on the Chinese mainland.
