DIARY: Old PR dogs can still teach a few tricks

was little grey hair to be seen.



However there was the oddal silvery barnet among the young over-

achievers - waxworks of great astronomers were dotted among the throng.

‘Who’s that old geezer?’ asked one youth. ‘Patrick Moore,’ was the

reply. ‘No, the other one,’ said the first. ‘That’s Doug Smith,’ said

his friend.



Former IPR president Smith said: ‘I thought this was going to be a past

and future sort of thing.’ Needless to say, his own party spirit

remained admirably undiminished.
