The AIM-listed firm is London's largest diamond company based on resources (265 million carats) and production (over 1m carats per annum).

Buchanan will position Petra Dimonds to the international investment community as the pre-eminent investment opportunity in the diamond sector.

The account is led by Bobby Morse, partner, and is the agency's only diamond firm in its portfolio of mining companies.

Hogarth PR was previously the incumbent on the account.

The African-centred firm owns the Cullinan mine in South Africa, which produced the world's largest diamond (the Cullinan diamond at 3,106 carats, part of which is mounted in the sceptre of the cross, part of the Queen's crown jewels), as well as six other producing diamond mines in South Africa and Tanzania.

Earlier this year a blue diamond produced from its Cullinan mine has sold for US$9,488,754m, or US$1,349,752 per carat, which set a new record price per carat for any gemstone sold at auction.
