On telephoning York-based Jennings Nicholson Associates I was surprised

to pick up a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday. I was further intrigued

to hear someone receiving ‘the bumps’. Curious as to whether the victim

was a particularly forgiving client or just an unfortunate employee, I

broached the subject with principal David Nicholson.

Visions of office bacchanals were sadly dashed when Nicholson revealed

the revelry actually marked his six-year-old daughter Lucy’s birthday

and that the office phones had been diverted to his home.

A party line, no doubt.
