ITN has promoted its Independent Radio News editor Nicholas Wheeler to

the new post of chief editor of ITN Radio where one of his key tasks is

to relaunch the troubled London News Radio.

The appointment comes amid a number of redundancies at London News

Radio, which operates the 97.3 FM and 1152 AM services, following its

acquisition by stakeholders Reuters, GWR, the Daily Mail and General

Trust.

Wheeler was not available for comment on his plans and LNR acting

managing director Mervyn Hall said he would not comment on the future

format for the stations or the time frame for their relaunch. However

rumours suggest they could revert to a rolling news format.

In his new role, Wheeler will also take responsibility for all ITN’s

growing independent radio interests.
