Lobbying firm GJW, which is working for both sides of the MAI/United

Newspapers merger, is considering a move into financial public

relations.

Andrew Gifford, a founding director of GJW, told PR Week that he has had

talks with a number of City PR firms, including Dewe Rogerson about a

joint venture.

He indicated he was also considering hiring one or more financial PR

specialists in-house. He pointed out that GJW was well-placed to provide

financial PR describing much of its work as more like ‘corporate finance

advice but the political dimension’ rather than straight lobbying.

* GJW has recruited David Taylor, formerly associate director of health

studies at the Audit Commission, as a director. Taylor will work

alongside fellow director Nigel Clarke in GJW’s health unit. The company

has also announced three new associate directors: David Candlin, in the

health unit, Jane Hardman and Stephanie Ayres.
