Granada and British Sky Broadcasting are hunting for a head of press to join their pounds 20 million joint venture Granada Sky Broadcasting - set to launch this autumn.

Granada and British Sky Broadcasting are hunting for a head of press to

join their pounds 20 million joint venture Granada Sky Broadcasting -

set to launch this autumn.

The chosen candidate will join a new marketing team based near London

Weekend Television’s headquarters, run by chief executive Stuart Prebble

and commercial director Jerry Glover.

Granada’s corporate affairs director Chris Hopson said Granada TV and

LWT’s London and Manchester press offices would continue to provide

press and programme publicity services for the new station because of

their inside production knowledge.

The head of press is expected to have television and satellite public

relations experience. He or she will handle corporate public relations

for Granada Sky Broadcasting and programme publicity for its eight new

channels.

These will include an archive channel called Granada Gold Plus, a talk

show station and a range of ‘lifestyle’ channels such as Health and

Beauty and Homes and Gardens.

Granada and BSkyB are aiming to make an appointment within the next few

months. The head of press will then decide whether to expand the press

team.

‘The job is the equivalent of running a major television channel’s

programme publicity and a corporate press office,’ said Hopson. ‘It is a

big, responsible role.’

Granada, which has a 60 per cent economic interest in Granada Sky

Broadcasting, is reported to be expecting a potential audience of around

five million viewers.
