Cadbury-Schweppes is to lose its top communications executive Chris

Milburn to industrial conglomerate BTR, ending a 26-year career with the

beverage-to-sweets group.

Milburn, corporate communications director at Cadbury-Schweppes, will

join BTR next month as its first director of corporate affairs as part

of the company’s plan to build the firm’s PR function.

At the industrial engineering group, Milburn will work alongside

director of corporate strategy and development John Saunders, who took

up his post in January.

Both Milburn and Saunders, ex-director for corporate planning and

development at SmithKline Beecham, will report to BTR’s first outside

chief executive, Ian Strachan, who joined earlier this year and is

masterminding BTR’s changes.

BTR, which owns over 1,000 companies in the construction, industrial,

transportation and electrical industries, is keen to enhance

communications with key worldwide audiences.

Milburn’s experience as head of investor relations, internal

communications, corporate affairs and crisis management at Cadbury-

Schweppes will be called on to talk to BTR’s shareholders, media,

investors and 130,000 staff.

Milburn, who was unavailable for comment as PR Week went to press,

joined Cadbury-Schweppes in 1969 on the factory management side of the

company.

He was made IR director in 1988 and his position widened to include the

whole corporate communications function two years later.
