Billy Bragg and Annie Lennox's body hires Deliberate PR amid clashes

A controversial coalition of artists that includes Billy Bragg, Annie Lennox and Nick Mason, has hired Deliberate PR amid clashes with other industry bodies.

The Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) has been embroiled in a spat with record labels and the Musicians' Union as the Government's consultation on illegal firesharing draws to a close.
 
The FAC has said the Government's proposals to suspend offenders' broadband accounts is too heavy-handed and risks criminalising music fans.
 
Deliberate PR's MD Benjamin Webb said: ‘While the FAC does not condone illegal filesharing, it believes a heavy-handed approach is a backwards step.'
 
But the body has been heavily criticised by other music industry bodies including the royalty collection society PPL, the Musicians' Union and managers, who argue that the big stars are neglecting less established musicians.
 
The body hired Deliberate PR as its first PR agency to manage a news-driven campaign to raise public awareness of the body, influence policy-makers and recruit new artists and managers as members.
 
The account is a rolling contract, and was won following a pitch process.
 
The FAC was set up less than a year ago to safeguard artists' rights in a digital age.
