DIARY: How a little bit of sucking took Selby right to the top

on the agency’s AEG Floorcare account. Her most recent task for the

client was to generate media coverage for its new product, the AEG Croma

vacuum cleaner.

Hardly high powered you might think but Selby’s client handling was to

lead her straight into the path of our glorious leader Tony Blair. Selby

had just completed delivery of review products to IPC Magazines

headquarters at Kings Reach Tower in London when she bumped into the

Prime Minister.

’I turned a corner as I was leaving the building and almost walked

straight into him,’ Selby tells me. Selby attempted to persuade Tony to

take home one of her fancy vacuums to give Number 10 a good going over -

perhaps with a view to a celebrity endorsement in Prima, which wife

Cherie once guest edited.

Unfortunately, Blair declined, but agreed to be pictured with Selby.

Perhaps he feels that the corridors of power are clean enough already.
