The Royal Bank of Scotland has appointed Safeway’s public affairs manager Cameron Walker as its first corporate PR manager in Scotland.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has appointed Safeway’s public affairs

manager Cameron Walker as its first corporate PR manager in

Scotland.

Edinburgh-based Walker will report to RBS’ director of corporate affairs

Stewart Prosser who is based in London. His appointment means that

Prosser’s team is now five-strong and he is seeking to further

strengthen it outside London with the appointment of a PR manager for

the North of England.

Prosser’s team handles communications for the corporate and

institutional side of the bank. Communications for the retail division

are handled by a separate Scottish-based team.

Explaining Walker’s appointment Prosser said: ’We have a well known

brand which has more of a retail reputation. We are trying to make sure

we are also known as a corporate bank and are ensuring the story is told

in Scotland.’

RBS is the leading bank in Scotland in handling large corporate clients

and is seeking to maintain this position.

Walker’s remit at the bank will cover media relations, internal

communications, and event management. Walker has considerable corporate

affairs experience having worked for two years at Safeway and previously

for breweries Bass and Scottish and Newcastle. He spent eight years at

the latter.

RBS’ corporate and institutional banking side contributed around half of

its group profits of pounds 411 million for the six months ending 31

March.
