Glasgow-based Spence Allan Associates last week won work worth

pounds 50,000 in fees from the New Millennium Experience Company in

Scotland (NMECS).

NMECS is the three-month old Scottish arm of Government agency the New

Millennium Experience Company. It co-ordinates Millennium-related events

in Scotland as well as encouraging teachers to integrate the event into

school curricula.

Spence Allan is expected to work with NMECS until the end of 2000,

helping it to keep the media informed about Millennium projects, to

produce information brochures and newsletters and to support the

Scottish Millennium education programme. It will be NMECS’s only PR

agency.

NMECS saw pitches by Spence Allan, Beattie Media and Catchline PR,

before choosing Spence Allan. Don Spence, managing director of Spence

Allan, said: ’This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, indeed once in

40 generations.’

David Watts, NMECS’s Scottish Partnership Manager, said: ’We’re facing a

fairly negative view of the Millennium in Scotland. It’s associated with

the Dome, which is wrongly seen as a London project.’
