DIARY: Old newshounds just can’t let go of the lead

Former financial journalist turned PR man, Philip Robinson is beating a retreat. I gather he is leaving The Maitland Consultancy, after just four months, to return to journalism.

Former financial journalist turned PR man, Philip Robinson is beating a

retreat. I gather he is leaving The Maitland Consultancy, after just

four months, to return to journalism.

Robinson, who left his job as deputy business and City editor at the

Independent to join Maitland earlier this year, is to join the Daily

Telegraph in an unspecified ‘senior’ role.

Described by industry sources as a ‘well respected and experienced

journalist’ Robinson worked with Telegraph City editor Neil Collins for

a short period after returning to the UK from the US two years ago.

Prior to that he held the City editor’s job at the Daily Express.

Robinson’s change of heart follows that of Jeff Randall, who abandoned

Financial Dynamics for a plum job at his old newspaper the Sunday Times

earlier this year.
