DUBLIN: Fianna Fail banks on PJ Mara



Independent PR and public affairs adviser PJ Mara has been appointed

director of elections for Ireland’s opposition Fianna Fail party. A

former government press secretary, Mara is the first non-politician to

be given job of managing party publicity for a general election - which

is likely to be held in late 1997. Mara runs his own consultancy with

offices in Dublin and Limerick. Clients include aircraft leasing company

GPA, pharmaceuticals firm Elan and IWP, the household goods

manufacturer.



BARCELONA: Easyjet flies with H&K in Spain



EasyJet, the independent UK airline, has appointed Hill and Knowlton to

handle its public relations in Spain. Work will initially focus on

building publicity for the launch of EasyJet’s service between Luton and

Barcelona on 14 June. The agency, which works for EasyJet in the

Netherlands, won the account without a competitive pitch. The airline

already operates cut-price flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and

Nice, for which it handles PR in-house at its Luton headquarters.



LJUBLJANA: Pristop for eco-friendly heat



Pristop has snapped up the estimated 100,000 ecu (pounds 83,000) fee

contract from the Environmental Development Fund of the Republic of

Slovenia to promote environmentally friendly heating systems to domestic

users. The 12 month programme, which is funded by the World Bank in

association with the European Union’s PHARE and TACIS programmes,

carries a total budget of 400,000 ecu (pounds 333,000). Pristop will

work alongside local management consultancy firm Iteo. Five other

consortia submitted tenders for the contract (PR Week, 26 April).



PARIS: Moreau Lascombe wins Remy deal



Remy Distribution France, the distribution arm of drinks producer Remy

Cointreau, has hired Moreau Lascombe GCI to manage a promotional push

for its Cointreau, Famous Grouse and Remy Martin brands. The agency,

which clinched the account last week after a competitive pitch, has been

briefed to target the youth market through a mix of press relations,

special promotions and high profile events. These include sponsored club

nights and offers of a free CD-ROM containing cocktail menus with every

bottle of Cointreau.



BELFAST: McCormick heads F-H Saunders



Darlene McCormick has been promoted to director of Fleishman-Hillard

Saunders in Ireland. McCormick, who has been general manager of the

agency’s Northern Ireland office for two-and-a-half years, continues to

head an office of four staff handling mainly corporate and consumer work

for clients which include brewing company Anheuser Busch, Budweiser and

Gillette.



PRAGUE: Rotbauer builds relations for MMD



Jan Rotbauer has joined advertising and PR agency MMD as a specialist

media relations consultant. Rotbauer, 35, will be responsible for

building relationships with the local press. He previously worked for

Ceskā€” Televize the Czech Republic’s state-owned television channel, and

was Czech language editor of the monthly bilingual magazine Prague

Tribune before that. He reports to MMD’s managing director Wendy Walker.
