Sainsbury’s is continuing the shake-up of its communications division

begun with the appointment of Dominic Fry as its new director of

corporate affairs, with the recruitment of a senior manager for

consumer affairs.

Jenny Swift, UK PR manager for Buena Vista Home Entertainment, will join

Sainsbury’s next month as head of its newly-created consumer affairs

division.

The 20-strong department encompasses product (own label) PR, which

accounts for two-thirds of Sainsbury’s sales and the SJ speaker service

where supermarket executives give talks on nutrition and local PR. A

team of three which runs Sainsbury’s Archive; a library of photographs

and information on the store’s 126 year history, will also report to

Swift.

Her division is one of five, including internal communications,

corporate affairs, public affairs and the press office which will report

to Fry. Currently communications chief at Eurotunnel, (PR Week, 3 May),

he joins Sainsbury’s at the end of next month.

Both appointments are the result of a communications review commissioned

by Sainsbury’s former marketing director Ivor Hunt last August.
