NEWS: Ewing quits BET in the wake of Rentokil takeover

Mike Ewing, director of corporate affairs at BET, has quit the company following its pounds 2 billion takeover by rival business services group Rentokil in April.

Mike Ewing, director of corporate affairs at BET, has quit the company

following its pounds 2 billion takeover by rival business services group

Rentokil in April.

Ewing, left BET at the end of last month after being invited to accept

redundancy along with several other directors in charge of the day-to-

day running of the business.

Heading a department of around ten staff, Ewing was responsible for

overall PR, including investor relations and internal communication. He

also managed human resources, a function which has since been taken over

by Rentokil’s management development director Ken Bowman.

Ewing’s remaining responsibilities have been absorbed by Charles

Grimaldi, group corporate affairs director at Rentokil, and his team of

four.

Grimaldi explained that, following the BET takeover,Ewing’s role had

become superfluous. ‘You don’t need two people looking after corporate

affairs,’ he said.‘We are a very mean and lean team.’

BET, which last month revealed a 32 per cent rise in annual profits to

pounds 146 million, spent pounds 24 million in its unsuccessful defence

against Rentokil.
