Online B2B giant Alibaba.com hands communications brief to Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger

Alibaba.com, the world's biggest online B2B marketplace, has selected Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger to handle national and regional PR duties as it attempts to raise its profile in Europe.

The website is the largest online meeting place for buyers and suppliers in the world, connecting more than 9m companies across 240 countries and regions. It selected Ptarmigan following a three-way pitch. The agency will aim to blend traditional PR with digital and social media elements, integrating with a multimillion pound advertising campaign.

The campaign will attempt to raise Alibaba.com's brand awareness amongst entrepreneurs and small to medium sized businesses by highlighting opportunities to generate new revenues trading on the world stage.

Founded in China in 1999, Alibaba.com listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2006 in the second largest Internet IPO ever. More than 420,000 UK businesses are already trading across the Alibaba.com platform.
